Jersey Boys at Shea’s Performing Arts Center

Standing ovations, packed houses and cheering crowds of people who look more like they’re at a concert than a Broadway show have become commonplace at Shea’s Performing Arts Center.

It’s all thanks to blockbuster musical “Jersey Boys,” which is in the midst of a three-week run at Shea’s, performing till May 09, 2010. The Tony, Grammy and Olivier award winner for best musical is the true story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. It portrays a group of blue-collar boys from the wrong side of the tracks who make it big, selling 175 million records worldwide before they turn 30 years old.

It may sound like a typical Hollywood storyline, but Shea’s President and CEO Tony Conte said there’s no fluff in this story line.

“Probably the most interesting part of this particular production is that this is not a story that has been cleaned up for public viewing or anything like that. It’s the real story,” Conte said. “Having met Frankie Valli when the show opened and talked to him, he assured me that this is in fact the real story. It has all the ugly stuff about it.”

The Jersey Boys show ends in Buffalo, NY on May 09, 2010. Buy your tickets to see the show.

Critic Says Vegas Jersey Boys Better Than Ever Two Years Later!

Category: Uncategorized — Tags: – admin @ 2:18 am

Critic Ellen Sterling attended the Jersey Boys anniversary show last Saturday evening in Vegas and noted that the performance was brilliant! Here’s a sneak peek into her fantastic review:

No, it was absolutely the performances, particularly that of Rick Faugno as Frankie. Since I saw him at the press night in 2008 he has grown, flourished, in the role. Faugno has the voice, the acting chops and, most of all, the thorough knowledge of his character. For those two hours he is Frankie Vallli and believably takes his character from teenage boy-with-a-great-voice to adult man who has dealt with a range of problems and issues in his life. Though, to be fair, I have to say I haven’t seen the alternate Frankie, Travis Cloer, I still believe Faugno’s is a superb performance. The other three seasons — Jeff Liebow (Nick Massi), Devin May (Tommy DeVito) and Peter Saide (Bob Gaudio) — are equally good. It is clear that they singers were cast both to talent and physical type. They struck gold with this cast.

Jersey Boys Rave Reviews in Buffalo

Category: Uncategorized — Tags: – admin @ 2:14 am

Jersey Boys, the Tony, Grammy and Olivier Award-winning hit musical, received rave reviews in Buffalo at the Shea Performing Arts Center, where it opened Friday, April 23 (performances began April 21) and will play through Sunday, May 9. From Buffalo, Jersey Boys will play Providence, RI’s Providence Performing Arts Center Wednesday, May 12 through Sunday, June 6.

BUFFALO NEWS
Buffalo News’ Colin Dabkowski writes “Immaculately produced, directed and performed…Like so many pieces of film, theater and television before it, Jersey Boys derives much of its wide and growing appeal from the quintessential American fascination with the tragedy of celebrity, success and inevitable corruption. In the case of The Four Seasons, we learn, the corruption was there in the first place, which makes their success that much more improbable and fascinating. It should come as no surprise that “Jersey Boys” is produced with a mechanized degree of precision…No surprise either that the music is irresistible.”

BUFFALO RISING
Buffalo Rising’s Kristen Becker writes “The four actors in the lead roles nailed the rock show feel with every number. All thirty-three. That’s right, thirty three musical numbers, and a show that spans forty some odd years. The only way to put that much into a show and explore that many years without losing your audience is through meticulous execution…The entire cast should be commended for the teamwork displayed onstage. It’s not as easy as they made it look. Bravo to the cast, the writers and the crew for a remarkable show. If I believed in rating systems, it would be four out of Four Seasons (Sorry, the “star” rating system was taken).”
