The touring company of “Jersey Boys” will open the 2012-13 Broadway series at the Shubert Theater in New Haven, Connecticut.
The show, which had a “dry run” of its initial tour several years ago at the Shubert, returns to the theater for a two-week engagement in New Haven, the first time in years the theater hosted a multi-week booking. I tossed and I turned remembering magical pieces of stage craft, goose bump inducing performances and everything else that makes up this Tony winning Best Musical; indeed one of the best musicals of all time.
Jersey Boys demonstrates what a juke box musical can be when all the stars align just right and all the professionals are at the top of their game. The audience at the Broward Center last night received Jersey Boys with the wildest pandemonium, seemingly endless cheering, and simply bravo’d the show within an inch of its life. Oh, What A Night, as one of the classic Four Seasons songs of Jersey Boys sings. Oh, what a night, to say the least. Anyone able to attend Jersey Boys and misses it, does so at their own risk. Jersey Boys is one of the greatest musicals of anyone’s lifetime.

The North American national touring company of Jersey Boys rolled into town on Wednesday of last week. Jersey Boys will be performing at National Theatre – DC for almost 8 weeks through Jan 07, 2012.
This Broadway hit, “The Story of Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons,” the musical tells a tale that transcends show business gossip to become a close character study of four talented but very different blue-collar guys from New Jersey — who just happen to have sung some of the best close-harmony rock/pop tunes of the late 1950s, the 1960s and into the 1970s.
The real reason to see this production is the music. The songs that were able to drive excitable teenagers to the dance floor nearly 50 years ago, like “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Let’s Hang On (To What We’ve Got),” and “December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night),” still possess a strange kind of power with their snappy beats and harmonized hooks, particularly when performed with such energy and polish—there’s a good chance you’ll need to have the tunes surgically removed from your head in the weeks following the show. It’s no wonder the National Theatre brought this musical back for an encore.
